We congratulate Bergen Airport Flesland with the purchase of five MV3D Explosives detection systems.

We congratulate Bergen Airport Flesland with the purchase of five MV3D Explosives detection systems.

BBC will deliver, install and service these units. BBC had the most competitive offer to Avinor based upon a combination of price and technology.

Flesland is Norway's second busiest airport, located 19km south of Bergen city centre. It is the main airport for the counties of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane, which collectively have 600,000 inhabitants. Flesland handled more than 6 million passengers in 2014. Bergen Airport serves more than 49 locations and 37 direct international flights.

The route to Oslo Airport Gardermoen is among the busiest in Europe.

In order to accommodate the growing passenger traffic and make the airport future-ready Avinor is building a new terminal, Terminal 3 (T3). Expected to be completed in 2017 the new terminal will increase the airport's passenger processing capacity to ten million a year.

The modern terminal will be a scalable building featuring all core functions, including check-in, baggage, storage systems, security control, and departure/arrival halls in two separate levels.

The MV3D delivers an unbeatable combination of innovative technology, superior threat detection, reliable performance and cost efficiency. The MV3D underscores L-3’s commitment to improve aviation threat detection through the advancement of innovative technologies for complex and demanding security applications.

Designed to meet the highest level of detection performance without the use of a rotating gantry, the MV3D seamless integrate with the airport’s baggage handling system and scan up to 1,800 bags per hour. The effective throughput is increased with a dieback tolerant technology allowing bags to be stopped in the scanplane for short periods and still allow the explosive detection analysis to proceed without impact. In addition, it  reduces costly rescreening of these bags.

The system is architected to offer customers a lower total cost of ownership. The stationary gantry design eliminates moving parts to deliver superior MTBF and system availability ensuring lower maintenance costs for airport operators.

Together with BBC’s proven track record and operational experience, Bergen Airport Flesland has chosen a solid partner to continue delivering a safe, reliable and efficient travel experience to its passengers. “We are looking forward to cooperate with BBC and have high expectations to the results. We expect significantly increase in capacity compared to the current facility says Norvald Thue, Project Director for T3
